It’s not the cheapest place to visit. But don’t let that stop you – this is a trip you won’t want to miss! As an Aussie Specialist, I’ll take you on a journey through some of the top destinations to visit in Australia. First, let’s discuss the country.
Australia Overview
Before you travel to Australia, you’ll need to decide which location(s) you’re heading to. Australia is broken out into SIX states and TWO territories. The six states include New South Wales (NSW), Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania. One of the two territories is the Northern Territory. With Darwin as the capital of this territory, you’ll find the outback. While the landmass of the Northern Territory is huge, only about 1% of Australians live there. The other territory is the Australian Capital Territory, which contains Canberra.
Regardless of which area you’re flying into, you will be spending about 23 hours on the flight total getting there. Bring plenty of entertainment in addition to your sense of adventure!

Iconic Australia Foods
No travel to Australia is complete without sampling some of the most iconic Australia foods. Vegemite is the most common one that ‘foreigners’ discover, and more often than not, hate! No matter how many people tell you it’s disgusting you should try it at least once. It’s an acquired taste for sure! There’s fairy bread, perfect for the younger crowd in your family. A hit with kids for sure! Then there’s Tim Tam. Any backpacker that has traveled to Australia will be familiar with this famous chocolate biscuit.
Another popular item to try is a meat pie. Adelaide
Sophisticated, cultured, neat-casual − the self-image Adelaide projects is a nod to the days of free colonisation. Adelaidians may remind you of their convict-free status – and of the Kaurna Aboriginal heritage of this land – but the stuffy, affluent origins of the ‘City of Churches’ did more to inhibit development than promote it. But these days things are different. Multicultural flavors infuse Adelaide’s restaurants; there’s a pumping arts and live-music scene; and the city’s festival calendar has vanquished dull Saturday nights. There are still plenty of church spires here, but they’re outnumbered by pubs and hip bars tucked away in city lanes.
Travel from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island, one of Australia’s most popular wildlife destinations, on this activity-filled day trip by ferry and coach. On the island, discover its natural attractions and local animals, from Vivonne Bay and Seal Bay Conservation Park to the Remarkable Rocks, Flinders Chase National Park, Admirals Arch and more. Spot wallabies, echidnas, fur seals, koalas and, of course, kangaroos. Adelaide is also a great starting off point for wine tasting in the Barossa Valley.
Perth
Western Australia is a stunningly beautiful region of Australia, and Perth is its vibrant and cosmopolitan capital city. Perth has a lot to offer to tourists who want to explore the beauty of Western Australia.
Despite its remote location, Perth and the surrounding region offer visitors a plethora of attractions and activities to enjoy. With its warm climate, the city showcases its breathtaking pristine beaches, al fresco dining options, scenic hiking trails, and exciting water-based adventures. In fact, Perth has consistently been named one of the most livable cities in the world, thanks to its unbeatable quality of life and modern amenities. Additionally, as the gateway to Western Australia, Perth is the perfect starting point for exploring the natural wonders and cultural attractions of the state.
Wine lovers will find their paradise in the Swan Valley, with over 40 wineries, breweries, and distilleries to choose from. Sample the best wines in the region, indulge in local cuisine, and soak in the scenic views of rolling hills and vineyards.
Perth boasts some of the most stunning beaches in the country, including Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough Beach, and the famous Rottnest Island.
